AMOS - GENTLE SOUL
Achievements:
Amos was my first Golden Retriever. He was always a challenge. Hard headed, permanently a puppy, and sometimes aggressive, BUT what a friend. He was loveable, tender, intuitive of my moods, and a joy to own.
He and I took years of obedience lessons with Jo-Ann Walters of Goldfield Retrievers. With bait, Amos could have easily earned his CD. Unfortunately, bait isn't allowed in the Obedience Ring.
Amos adored & lived for Field Work. While "peaceably waiting" his turn to retrieve, he'd quiver in anticipation & try to chew his way out of his kennel. When sent, he'd leap into the air & soar quite a distance before hitting the water in pursuit of his "bird." Jo-Ann & husband Andrew saw to it that Amos got his WC & JH. He wasn't able to go farther because he couldn't grasp the idea of walking to the line off lead. He proved the point by pulling me off my feet many a time.
Bought as a "pet", Amos still managed to gain some Confirmation points. His breeder, Jean Doman of Doman's Kennel faithfully showed up at all his Confirmation Shows to groom her boy. At one Confirmation Show he competed against some very handsome dogs handled by their breeders. Despite the heavy competition, Amos' beautiful stride won Winners Dog that day.
On November 23, 2006 Amos' kidneys failed him. He was cremated. Amos will be buried along side me, where he belongs.
