Ch. Sekim Seafarer v. Scrimshaw. Splash was the first champion at C.Square, and all our dogs go back to him.
This is the first time I ever put points on a dog!
Splash had already gotten a 5 point major as WD at the Eastern Specialy (judge Espen Engh), when we purchased him from Mona Maytag. He was a beautifully shaped Whippet with mostly Swedish bloodlines behind him. He was only 21 inches tall (far too "small" for Mona's taste), but just perfect for us.
Our first SEKIM champions
Ch. Sekim Seafarer v.Scrimshaw "Splash" and Ch. Beja and Sekim's Necessity "Stroller"
Ch. Beja and Sekim's Necessity "Stroller"
Stroller was intended to be our foundation bitch, but this was not to be. We learned most of our important lessons through Stroller. She finished her Championship at 8 years old, mostly handled by Kirk. She also managed to have three litters, but we didn't choose to use any of her puppies in our breeding program
Fate steps in
Delight's Freestyle, Magic
Our true foundation bitch
I'd like to say that we set out to buy the best bitch to be our foundation, but as fate would have it, Magic sort of fell right in our laps. She was a young puppy out of National Specialty Best in Show Ch. Merci Isle Meridian JC, ROMX. She came from the litter that produced Ch. Merci Isle I See Delight (Cardhu), Ch. Delight Fall's Faun Finery (Pansy) and Ch. Delight's White Collar Crime.
Our Foundation Litter
Ch. C.Square's Magic Pendant and Ch. Ampersand E= MC.Square
Ch. C.Square's Rhoda Glory
Magic was bred to our Splash and had 8 puppies. There were three Champions from that litter, Penny, who we kept, and produced 5 champions for us. MC, who was owned by Marta Gropper, went on to win a supported entry BOB, and produced champions under the Wild Card prefix. Rhoda was sold to Ray Johnson of Mariki Whippets, who also won a supported entry BOB under Mrs. Phillip Fell and produced champions for Ray as well as for Mona Maytag's Ampersand Whippets. Rhoda was also incorporated in our breeding program through her daughter, C.Square's Mad Madge Two.
A Step Backward
Magic (with Mona) and Penny
Penny's Group 3
Magic bounced back from having the litter and was well on her way to her championship when tragedy struck. We were still grieving the loss of Splash, who weeks before had escaped and was lost from a boarding facility, when Magic was struck and killed by a car. This was a devastating blow, leaving us with just young Penny to continue our breeding program.
While Penny inherited many virtues from both her parents, she wasn't as good as Magic. We had to figure out how to regain the ground we lost, which of course led us back to her grand-sire, ZOOM
NSBIS CH. MERCI ISLE MERIDIAN, JC, ROMX
Zoom in his prime
That beautiful face
In order to get back to where we started, we approached Iva Kimmelman of Merci Isle about breeding Penny back to Zoom. Iva had shown Zoom, breeder-owner-handled, to a National Specialty Best of Breed in a record breaking entry, an awesome achievement for a solid fawn Whippet. Zoom had also sired a National Futurity Best of Breed AND National Specialty Best of Breed winner in NSBIS Ch. Merci Isle Burncoat Babylon. We were impressed with this beautiful, stallion of a dog and wanted very badly to have a solid fawn Whippet of our own. Zoom had the look and temperement that we had come to admire and we are forever grateful to Iva for agreeing to let us breed to him.
Back on Track
Ch. Luna and Ch. Idol
Ch. Theo and cousin Madge
We were very happy with the results of the breeding of Zoom to Penny. We had a litter of 5 puppies, three of which became Champions. We got the solid fawn male that we hoped for, Ch. C.Square's Idol Chatter(Idol), a fawn and white bitch, Ch. C.Square's Silver and Gold(Luna), and a fawn brindle male Ch.C.Square's Roughrider(Theo)
Idol finished easily with majors and Best of Breed wins at AWC Specialties and Supported entries.Theo also had exciting wins, most memorably a Third in the Open Class at the National under Betty Stites. Luna became a valuable brood bitch who attained her ROM in 2007.
Idol
First 6-9 Puppy AWC Eastern Specialty judge Betty Stites
Kirk and Idol BOS at AWC supported entry judge Donald Sturz
Ch. Delight of Justamere
Abby
We were approached by Abby's owner about using Idol on their beautiful white bitch. Abby was sired by SBIS Ch. Whippletree's Wild Colonial Boy ROMX (Bugsy) and her Dam was Ch. Delight's White Collar Crime(Zoey). We were very excited about this line breeding, as Zoey was a Zoom daughter and sister to our bitch, Magic.
