If you've never owned a British Labrador, you will be amazed at the difference! These dogs are calm, great to be around, and make wonderful companion dogs as well as superb gundogs.
My British labs have a field champion pedigree (not show champion) and are the perfect choice for hunters and families. They tend to be smaller in size; females running 45-60lbs and males 55-75lbs. They come in black, yellow and fox red. They tend to have classic labrador conformation. British labs are known for their calm dispositions and their strong drive to hunt and retrieve. Once trained, the become an exceptional hunting companion.
The calm disposition and hunting drive have been selected for by British field trial breeders to compete successfully in trials in the UK. In the UK, field trials involve live game and real life hunting and shooting scenarios. The dogs must mark downed birds, but not retrieve until directed. If the dog whines or moves, he is disqualified. If the bird is crippled, the dog must track the bird to complete the retrieve. To be competitive, he must have an exceptional nose, calm temperament, game finding and retrieving ability and a willingness to please. They do not train with electric collars or force fetch.
These traits have been selected for when choosing breeding stock.
