Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

"Duffer"
June 30, 1967 - February 13, 1994
Duffer was one of the most magnificent creatures I have ever known. She was half Arabian and half Quarter Horse. I got her when she was just a few months old, and I was 13 years old. I went to see a Quarter Horse named Thunder, but all I could see was Duffer. It was love at first sight. There was little that Duffer wouldn't do for me, but she excelled at gymkhana events, particularly the barrel race. I can still remember the explosive power I felt from her when we crossed the start line. I had Duffer for almost 27 years, we grew up together. A huge part of me left with her the day she died. It took a little Golden puppy who became known as Shawnee to begin to heal my heart, for the first moment I saw her and we made eye contact, it was just as if I was looking into Duffer's eyes. I know Duffer is watching over me, and we will be reunited one day, along with the rest of my Bridge Kids.

"Scout" - Landry's Maiden Scout
October 13, 1977 - August 17, 1990
Scout was my first dog. I got her after graduating from St F.X. in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. She came from a kennel near Halifax. I had always loved German Shepherd and was so happy to get this little girl. As a puppy, she and Snoopy got into trouble together. They were quite a team. Snoopy would knock things off the counter and she and Scout would chew them up. When she got older she quite often came to work with me, both when I worked with disabled kids and then when I started driving a truck. She made a great co-pilot, and we got lots of comments when people saw her sitting up in the truck. It has been several years now since Scout left me for The Bridge, but I still think of her often and miss her.

"Snoopy"
April 26, 1978 - April 18, 1994
Snoopy was one of the coolest cats I have ever had. She and Scout grew up together, and I swear she thought she was a dog. She was as smart as a whip. She was definitely a force to be reckoned with when people came into my house. I didn't need a guard dog, I had Snoopy. I had never seen a Tortoiseshell cat before Snoopy, and when I saw her I knew she was the kitten for me. I thought she was so beautiful. Snoopy came from Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

"Patches"
March 10, 1984 - June 4, 1998
Patches was a very special little cat. After I lost my kitten Stormy due to a horrible accident (she literally chased a toy into Scout's mouth while Scout was chewing a bone) on Christmas Eve, I started going to the SPCA looking for another Calico kitten. A few months later I saw Patches and of course she came home with me. The following Christmas Eve at the exact time that Stormy died, Patches right eye, the one with the black patch, swelled up and she couldn't open it. About an hour later the swelling went down, and her eye was fine again. After that, there was never any doubt in my mind that little Stormy had come back to me via Patches.
