All puppies are vet checked before going to their new homes.  All puppies receive their first puppy shot(Neopar) at  5 to 6 weeks old, at 8 weeks, a 5 way puppy shot,  and if they are still here at 10 weeks, they receive their second set of puppy shots.   Strategic
deworming is a practice recommended by the American Association of Veterinary Parasitologists (AAVP) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Initial treatment is at 2 weeks; and repeated at 4, 6, and 8 weeks of age. For a puppy at increased risk, also treat at 10 and 12 weeks, and then monthly until the puppy is 6 months old. Thereafter, use a heartworm preventative medication that is also effective against hookworms and roundworms.

Our Puppies and mom are wormed at 2-4 & 6 weeks old.

All of our adult dogs are cared for just as extensively as our puppies.  They are given a monthly wormings and regular vaccinations

Information about Vaccinations for your puppy.

*Vaccination Recommendations for Puppies (Puppy Shots)

The vaccination of puppies (puppy shots) is one of the crucial steps in assuring the puppy will have a healthy and happy puppyhood. The who, what, why, when, where, and how of vaccinations are complicated, and may vary from puppy to puppy. Always consult with your veterinarian to determine which vaccines are appropriate for your puppy. To better understand vaccines, it is important to understand how the puppy is protected from disease the first few weeks of its life.
A possible vaccination schedule for the 'average' puppy is shown below.
Puppy Vaccination Schedule

Age
 Vaccination
5 weeks
Parvovirus: for puppies at high risk of  exposure to       parvo, some veterinarians recommend vaccinating at 5 weeks.
6 & 9 weeks
Combination vaccine* without leptospirosis.
Coronavirus: where coronavirus is a concern.
12 weeks or older
Rabies: Given by your local veterinarian (age at vaccination may vary according to local law).
12 & 15 weeks**
Combination vaccine - Leptospirosis: include leptosporosis in the combination vaccine where leptospirosis is a concern, or if traveling to an area where it occurs.
Coronavirus: where coronavirus is a concern.
Lyme: where Lyme disease is a concern or if traveling to an area where it occurs.

Adult (boosters)§ Combination  vaccine

Leptospirosis: include leptospirosis in the combination vaccine  where leptospirosis is a concern, or if traveling to an area where it occurs.
Coronavirus: where coronavirus is a concern.
Lyme: where Lyme disease is a concern or if traveling to an area where it occurs.
Rabies: Given by your local veterinarian (time interval between vaccinations may vary according to local law).
*A combination vaccine, often called a 5-way vaccine, usually includes adenovirus cough and hepatitis, distemper, parainfluenza, and parvovirus. Some combination vaccines may also include leptospirosis (7-way vaccines) and/or coronavirus. The inclusion of either canine adenovirus-1 or adenovirus-2 in a vaccine will protect against both adenovirus cough and hepatitis; adenovirus-2 is highly preferred.
**Some puppies may need additional vaccinations against parvovirus after 15 weeks of age. Consult with your local veterinarian.
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, dogs at low risk of disease exposure may not need to be boostered yearly for most diseases. Consult with your local veterinarian to determine the appropriate vaccination schedule for your dog. Remember, recommendations vary depending on the age, breed, and health status of the dog, the potential of the dog to be exposed to the disease, the type of vaccine, whether the dog is used for breeding, and the geographical area where the dog lives or may visit.
Bordetella and parainfluenza: For complete canine cough protection, we recommend Intra-Trac II ADT. For dogs that are shown, in field trials, or are boarded, we recommend vaccination every six months with Intra-Trac II ADT.

Focus

Focusing primarily on producing healthy, well adjusted puppies with breed standards(conformation), when breeding, We always breed for excellence,  primarily intelligence and  for each puppy to have the beauty, and versatility known to its breed.

The second goal and most important is to find that special home for each puppy so that it may be treasured to his/her greatest gift(loyality/love)  to his/her new family:).

Puppies are sold on a spay/neuter contract as only exceptional puppies of outstanding structure, type and temperament will be placed in carefully approved breeding homes

As an extra show of devotion to our puppies, most  are micro-chipped at 6 weeks of age at no extra charge to you. Most vets charge from $60 or more for this service. If your pet is lost or stolen and ends up at a shelter or pound, they are body scanned when brought in.  If you have registered your chip with the national registry when they call them to check who the chip is registered to they will have your name, address and also your vets name and address and phone #'s to call to let you know they have found your pet. Also if you need to prove proof of ownership to identify your pet only you will have his/hers chip # ..

Our adult dogs are fed a meat base dog food. They are given NO table food what so ever.  14 days before their whelping date, our bred females are started on meat base puppy food . We also supplement with plain yogurt/cottage cheese morning and at night, approximately 1 lb each time. These are excellant sources of calcium and protein. I have found, that when moms to be have been fed this regiment they have fat, shiny healthy puppies and are much healthier themselves.   I like my moms to look like they have not had puppies, and by feeding them with this schedule while they nurse their puppies, they are not run down and are in great shape when the puppies are weaned.

We start the offering puppies Royal Canin puppy food starter at 3 weeks of age with puppy starter on it also. It is the best starter puppy food on the market in our opinion. When the puppies reach 5 to 6 weeks old we change them and mom over to regular Royal Canin puppy food (dry) and/or Pride Puppy. We send you home with about 5 lbs of our puppy food, if you wish to continue with it that is fine or we also recommend Iams/Eukanba puppy food which is easy to find as most Wal-Mart stores now carry Iams puppy food in the yellow bag (you can buy Royal Canin in some of the nicer pet food stores but it is a little more expensive than Iams.

We highly recommend that you keep your puppy on some type of meat base puppy food. If you read the back of the bag and IF THE FIRST INGREDIENT IS CORN DO NOT BUY IT, AS CORN IS A FILLER and just gives you more bi-product out the back end of the puppy. Before you bring your new puppy home start doing some comparison-shopping and bag reading. You also do not have to buy the top of the line food. If the first ingredient is meat whether it is chicken or beef and it is a puppy food you will be fine. When you change over to an adult food at a year also stay with a meat base food. It may cost a little more, but your pet will eat less and be MUCH healthier. Even if your vet sells it check the label. Even if you live out of state and we are shipping your puppy to you, we still send you a puppy pack box that contains everything you would get if picking up your puppy in person.

We have both sire and dam here of all our pups. When you choose a puppy if it is not ready to leave us yet, you may put a $50 deposit on the puppy to hold it. Deposits are non returnable unless for some unforeseen accident would occur and the puppy would die, then of course the deposit would be returned, and also if and when during a vet check our vet would find something wrong with the puppy then the client would be told about the problem and given the choice of taking the puppy or canceling the purchase, and in that case the clients deposit would also be returned.

WE DO SHIP PUPPIES OUT OF STATE but only within the USA! Most times you can ship a PUPPY any where in the US for $275.00. Shipping includes crate, Airline ticket and health certificate which is required by the airlines. Adult dogs do cost more depending on the size and weight of the dog.

At Lick Run Kennel, I am proud of my dogs and their puppies. They enjoy a country setting and lots of room to roam. They are great companion/house pets.

OUR POLICY:

DUE TO THE LIABILITY RISK & INSURANCE REGULATIONS, WE DO NOT ALLOW THE PUBLIC TO ENTER OUR KENNELS OR FARM AT ANYTIME FOR ANY REASON, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE OFFENSE TO THIS, THIS IS JUST OUR POLICY TO PROTECT OURSELVES AS WELL AS OUR ANIMALS AND PLEASE RESPECT THAT.

Please do not ask to come out to see or handle the puppies prior to them being ready to go to thier new homes at 6-8 weeks of age. Due to the high risk of diseases & infections that could be transmitted, we require them to be vaccinated prior to being handled by the public. This is just a precaution that we do to ensure our new owners will have a happy & healthy puppy. Please do not take offense to this. Also when placing a deposit, please know that choice of puppy is given in order of deposits received, however as breeder/owner I have the option to 1st pick of the litter if I choose. Thank You.
