On August 5th, 2008 , our youngest son Kristian Karl Olson, aged 35 passed away in his sleep. The family is devastated and what makes it worse, the cause is yet unknown. Autopsy results were inconclusive.

He has an appetite like an elkhound and loves to sleep. He is a sweetheart and now a part of the family...
We also got two barn cats in the bargain...Maxi and Snoopy.

The judges report stated:
Track 5 - Norwegian Elkhound bitch . Worked beautifully through the first two turns and crosstracks but overshot the third turn to the whistle.
May 20... our 2nd time in a TDX test...
The Good News - The weather was actually COLD and overcast.. ...I picked
track # 1. ...... Birka was very happy and simply awesome.... and she had
the most rugged, brushy and woodsy tracks at the test. We started in a field
of high grass, had to cross a walking path, track down a gravel road a bit,
up and down hills in and out of woods ..she found all 3 articles and tracked
the track layer all the way out of the woods and it was quite a way. I was
so proud of her and ...........if there had been a lost child at the end of
the track, she would have found him.
The Bad news - Just like last week ...as we stepped up to the start flag, we
heard thunder. Good thing Birka doesnt even pay any attention to that....
She was very very excited about being first but the start area is a dog
training area so lots of scents and she was a bit nutty and had some trouble
getting started... She finally did go forward, then turned to cross the path
and up thru a little woods and we found ourselves on the gravel road and a
bunch of old brush etc, looked burned out...I had NO idea where to go but
she took me down the road, and up a hill on a sort of curving path.... At
the 3rd turn , she started left, then straight. She seemed confused so I
backed up and tried several times....she just wouldnt commit to
either........finally i gave her a drink she didnt want, and then let her
scent the 2nd article we had found a few minutes earlier... she didnt want
that either......... I told her to find the track and she pulled hard
straight ahead... her nose was not down...but it wasn't far and the track
was visible going into the woods... we entered the woods and drat the
whistle blew... We were off track. . We should have turned left .....
gone a while, then right and right again and finally left into the
woods................ AKC frowns on a dog skipping a whole loop of the
track, 3 legs with the cross tracks to go right to the end..... so we didnt
pass. The dog must follow the entire track!
So Birka was great, and I need work on my own skills at handling at
corners. ;-( No more tests until fall.
We are exhausted.
