Brottsjo, Meet Bitte Liten

Brynja the Harlie

Since we moved to the farm, I felt that I needed livestock....and what could be more low maintenence than Rabbits...so I went to an auction with daughter in law Brenda. We were looking for rabbits..and I found Bitte...she was so tiny that I named her that which means little in Norwegian. Then I missed bidding on a Harliquin Dutch rabbit and I was so intrigued by the colors...we had black and white Dutch rabbits for the boys years back, but these were special. So I found an animal dealer and bought Brynja. She had great color with two different colored ears, but not the best type...she was rather long and hare like...but it was a start.

Brikke and Bandi Pedigreed Harlies

Our Bunny Condos....

I was happy with my two bunnies, but then I found a wonderful rabbitry....Dutchworks. I wanted to buy a buck Harlie Dutch so I could breed the girls... I ended up with Brikke the boy and Bandi a little doe.
The next thing Brian had to build a hutch and we ended up with a 4 hole Bunny Condo.

Brynja and daughter Blaze

Brokk says hello!

Of course , as Brynja, Bandi and Brikke grew up.... breeding was the next adventure. Brikke took about 4 seconds to learn what to do and after 31 days Brynja had 4 babies, two white and two Harlie Dutch... evidently she had a white rabbit in her past.... the two whites unfortunately died. Five days later Bandi the tiny one, who became the very fat mother, had five colorful little striped babies.... Four were of the Black/orange and white as the adults, and the little runt was a Chocolate...chocolate/orange and white.... I named her Brun meaning brown in Norwegian...and the most vivid striped one was soon Brokk. No I did not name them all and this B name business is getting pretty funny.
Brenda and I sexed them the other day, they are now almost 6 weeks... and Brokk ( means a scrap )is a buck, Blaze and Brun does..these are the 3 I want to keep. Blaze was so named as she has a zig zag into her back . Tonight the father Brikke and Brokk were sniffing noses, they are so cute and he is just a chip off the old block... and then Brikk raced around his cage showing off for the kids...

Dreaming of Chocolate Bunnies - Brun

These two are so funny....the one on the right is Brun , the chocolate as is the second photo. She is a real funny one, at first I thought there were only 4 babies, I couldnt find her in the hay...then she got thrown out of the nest box, before her eyes were even open..I found her face down in a corner of the cage her little paw sticking thru the wire...she was fine.
Today, I opened the hutch cage door, and she was standing up with her paws on the wire to greet me...ooops flying bunny, she luckily landed on the hay and poop under the hutch!!! She started to run around... but again was totally fine.
The babies are now 5 and almost 6 weeks old and leaping and jumping around in the cage kicking their feet in the air... Such bunny joy.

Brother Brokk and sister Brun

Auntie Bitte who probably is glad she doesnt have any kids....

Of the 7 babies, I have decided to keep one of Brynja's and two of Bandi's...I can see this could get out of hand....
But ... who can resist? It has been quite a joy to watch the progress of these babies, they are so sweet and innocent...but now Brian has to build another hutch. The signs are up to sell some of the bunnies...I hope they find good homes.

Our Holland Lop Buck

At first he was shy....

Bubba is my  Holland lop Buck... At first he was shy but has turned out to be a very sweet boy. He is the father of our first Holland Lop litter born on Sept 16....5 healthy babies.

(You might notice his pink nose.......his nose got nipped the first day with us by that naughty Bitta who wondered who this handsome bunny boy was sticking his nose into her cage!  Its all healed now and they are friends.)

Our Holland Lop Doe

Blossoms luxurious coat

Blossom is the  new mommy.... She has been cranky with me but is taking good care of her babies.  No fur yet so can't tell the colors but will be like the parents most likely. Pictures will be coming soon.
