Plentiful Run is a name that has been in the Musick (Mindy's maiden name) family for generations. It dates back to George Musick, Sr., Mindy's 7-times great-grandfather. Born in about 1664 George Musick, Sr. was awarded an early land grant in Spotsylvania County, Virginia by King George II. This land grant came to be known as "Plentiful Run," a plantation in Virginia's tobacco country at the foot of the Appalacian Mountains. George Musick, Sr. died on his Virginia tobacco farm in about 1754. Some of George Musick, Sr.'s sons moved into western Virginia, later Kentucky, Missouri (where Mindy's great-grandfather James Alexander Musick fought in the Civil War in the Union Cavalry), and eventually on to Southern California where her father, Jack (John Elmore) Musick, was born. The Musick family name was proudly handed down from father to son for many generations. When it came time to name our kennel, Plentiful Run was a natural choice, honoring Mindy's father, Jack Musick, and our ancestor who first established our family in the original 13 Colonies.
(Thank you to Mindy's Aunt Ellen Musick for her in-depth study of our family history. Her research has provided us with an amazing collection of written family records.)
