30 March 2006 - RUBY OPERATION IS SCHEDULED FOR 4/4/06
Ruby Grace is at the Dogs Home, Risdon Vale Tas. She is also under the care of the Tas Collie and Sheltie Club who is working with the Dog’s Home to bring her a “Happy Ever After” ending to her story.
She is described by the Dog’s Home staff as a divine 3-5 year old sable and white girl who was brought in by a dog ranger and has not been reclaimed.
It has been discovered she has a major infection in both of her ears and after two veterinary opinions her only hope of dealing with this painful problem is to have a bilateral ear ablation and lateral bulla osteotomy surgical procedure. (This is a 3 hour operation) and it also looks like she will loose most her external ear (the leather) as well as they are so grossly deformed and infected due to multiple haematomas over a very long period of time that have never been taken care of. You can smell the infection from Ruby’s ears at 10 paces.
The Dog’s Home has been quoted that this major surgery will cost at least $1600 for the procedure alone. After that Ruby will require 4-6 days of intensive hospital care and then maybe up to 8 weeks of vet visits every 5 or so days. Of course neither the Home, nor the Club has the money available for all this necessary treatment for Ruby. The Dogs’ Home however is prepared to contribute – possibly between $400-$500 depending on their funds, and the club has decided to raise the rest of this money for the surgery that this young collie needs.
So we are asking ALL FRIENDS OF THE COLLIE if they can contribute to Ruby Grace’s operation. All donations will be receipted. We have also decided that, if through the generosity of people, we collect more than we require for this procedure we will set up a special account where these funds will stay available (subject to veterinary reports and invoices) for any other collie requiring extra veterinary intervention while in rescue throughout Australia. We will also keep an open ledger of incomings and outgoings on this website so people can see where their money is being spent.
The Tas Collie and Sheltie Club will be doing fundraising locally as well for “Ruby Grace’s “ operation and care relating to this procedure.
Her After Surgery Care has already been planned and a Club Member has offered to take Ruby into her home to nurse her and take her to her Vet. appointments. The fund will pay for Ruby’s food, medical costs and petrol expenses to and from the Vet during this time. After her rehabilitation she will go through our adoption process in the normal manner. The Tas C&S Club will take care of any costs involved with this procedure.
