Welcome to Top Hat Golden Retrievers; home to a small hobby breeder which established the Top Hat name in 1997.
I acquired my first golden retriever in 1986 but I have loved, owned, and trained dogs for more than thirty years. I began training for obedience competition first and then I moved on to showing in the conformation venue. I have had dogs all my life but my history of obedience training started when I joined a canine 4-H club as a teenager. During this time I trained my aussie mix where our achievements took us to the state level of competition.
Later on I became a member of and was an instructor for an all-breed obedience training club for several years before I started competing in conformation shows.
The Top Hat line started with a breeding that produced Top Hat's One Perfect Rose, a singleton puppy who won Best of Opposite Sex at a golden specialty, her very first show, at 6 months of age.
I currently show my dogs in conformation but I have also trained in agility and dabbled with field work as well. I am a member in good standing of the Golden Retriever Club of America and I follow their Code of Ethics for breeder's. I am also a member of the Golden Retriever Club of Columbus Ohio.
I breed occasionally, one to two litter's per year, and all litter's are registered with the American Kennel Club. All breeding stock is health tested and have their OFA hip, Elbow, and Heart clearances as well as CERF certifications for their eyes. With the exception of any show prospect's, all puppies are sold on a contract with Limited Registration and must be spayed or neutered.
All of our dogs are family pets and live in our home, as well as the litter's we raise. My goal for each litter bred is to produce healthy, friendly goldens, with a focus on soundness in temperament as well as structure. I have produced dogs that excel as therapy dogs and obedience competitors, as well as hunting companions. There are currently 4 generations living with us, as well as other offspring relating to them.
