Our History

'Reena' Aust Ch Loighaire Star Magic our very first vizsla (aged 4 months) who is the reason for the existence of Aranyoz.

Aranyoz is the breeders Kennel prefix of Warren & Kerry McKay and our breed experience stretches all the way back to 1977, so effectively between us we have in excess of 60 years breed knowledge and understanding.  Any vizslas that we have bred ourselves will have the Kennel Prefix ARANYOZ as the first word in their registered name.  We have imported stud dogs from both the USA & the UK in our quest expand the gene pool in Australia and also to aid our goal to produce quality vizslas.

We registered our kennel pre-fix with the CCC(Q) in 1979, bred our first litter in 1980 and the rest as they say is history. The meaning of ARANYOZ when roughly translated from the Hungarian language means "to make golden", which we thought most appropriate, given the magnificence of the coat colour of the breed.

Warren was a Utility Gundog Field Trial judge at Championship level for many years (he has since retired from judging), and in 2006 became a columnist and regular contributor for a National sporting & hunting magazine.  Kerry is currently licenced to judge all Gundog (Sporting) Group breeds at Open Shows level in Queensland. We have been involved in training conformation show judges about the breed and Warren also served as a committee member of the CCC(Q) "Retrieving & Field Trial Sub-Committee" for many years.

Vizslas that we have owned or bred have promoted the breed in conformation Dog Shows, Utility Gundog Field Trials, Non Slip Retrieving Trials, Edurance Tests as well as Obedience & Agility competitions,  they have also been much loved companions & family members for people who were not involved in any form of pure bred dog competition.  We would like to thank all those owners who achieved success and also those who simply provided caring and loving homes for these dogs which is the most important thing to us here at ARANYOZ.

Although we have taken a break from breeding in recent years due to family commitments, and aging dogs, we are currently in the process of re-establishing our breeding program.

In 2007 we imported a new breeding female from the PARADOX Kennel of Nancy Boggs Heinold (DVM) in the USA,  with several dogs that we ourselves have bred or owned here at ARANYOZ in her background.  She is the 4th imported vizsla we have owned and when she arrived she was in whelp to an AMERICAN CHAMPION with an AMERICAN JUNIOR HUNTER title.  We like to think that the imported in dam (IID) puppies in this litter whelped in December 2007 are the new and improved model here at ARANYOZ as we head in a slightly different direction with our breeding.

Our goal for the future is to continue to breed quality dogs that make great companions and family members while still maintaining the true characteristics of this versatile hunting breed.  All available health screening of our breeding stock is being used to ensure that any puppies we produce are happy & healthy.

Enquiries from potential Puppy Buyers are also carefully screened, so expect to be asked lots of questions about why you want a vizsla, what you know about the breed and how you intend to raise it. We always provide as much information as possible and follow up advice and help to all owners of our puppies. We are happy to stay involved in the lives of pups we breed or pups sired by a stud dog we own.

We are not commercial breeders and only produce the occassional litter, about once every year or two. We are not planning to breed another litter until mid 2009.  If we do not have a litter planned in a time frame that is suitable for you we may be able to recommend another breeder who shares similar beliefs about the Vizsla and responsible breeding that we do.  If you should come accross another breeder who continually "bad mouths"  other breeders or their dogs, we advise that it is probably wise not to become involved with them as they obviously "have issues".  A good place to get additional breed information is from the Hungarian Vizsla Club of NSW.

Our dogs are our pets and companions first and foremost.  That is why we firmly believe in feeding our dogs a raw style diet based on Veterinary  Surgeon Dr Tom Lonsdale's raw meaty bones model http://www.rawmeatybones.com/ to keep them strong, healthy and long lived.

We have been feeding in this manner for over 6 years and our dogs are so much healthier.  We do not feed or recommend any commercial, grain based kibble style or cooked dog food.  We believe that as the dog is by  species a carnivore and as their intestinal tract remains this way after thousands of years that they should be fed a diet that is species specific.

We hope you enjoy looking at the vizslas on our website as they will give you a very good insight to the quality of the dogs that we have owned & bred in the past as well as the quality of our new imported stock that points the way to our success in the future.

Pictures From the Past

Reena (Ch Loighaire Star Magic) the very first vizsla we owned won Baby in Group at the first show we ever attended in November '77, handled by Warren.
She produced many firsts for us after that including our first litter & our first royal BOB. She was only bred once which resulted in a C-section but this litter did produce our first homebred Champion.

Reena's litter mate Chrissie, who came to us as virtual rescue case, but after removal of her badly infected tonsils, she blossomed and became the foundation stone on which our breeding line was built.
