About Us
Our Story
Located in Southeast Idaho Silver Sage Kennels is dedicated to the development of great field trial German Shorthaired Pointers. Competing in AKC and AF Field Trials in the western US. We strive to raise and compete with the best dogs we can. Though new to horseback trails we are not new to bird dogs or horses. Brad's first dog was purchased years before he could drive and this led to the purchase of several other good dogs. As with most boys of that age the smell of perfume and gasoline took hold and the dogs took second fiddle for a number of years. After Holli and him married the birddog in him took hold again and he obtained several fair dogs but none had the style, run or intensity he desired.
Shortly after moving to Idaho from their native state of Utah the search for big running high style dogs began. Many dogs went thru the kennel in search of dog's that could cover the country and find the Huns and Chukar that he loved and along that search he met a great group of guys that encouraged him to come out and compete. He also purchased a young bitch that no doubt could run but had a habit of flagging on birds. He decided he liked the way she ran and figured that she might be able to run with the horseback dogs and he loaded his Quarter Horse and headed to his first trail. At one year of age he ran her in the open derby in which he let her blow out of the country and leave the course for most of the brace. The next day Ellie was entered in the puppy and on a borrowed horse (his backside couldn't handle any more of his QH) he handled her to a 2nd place finish.
Upon returning home he shortly obtained not one but several walking horses and continued his search for dogs. During this time he continued to hunt Ellie on wild Pheasants, Chukar and Huns which quickly did away with the flagging that she showed on planted bird and has not returned. The following spring a young green broke dog was added to the string as well as a few pups all of which are now being campaigned and hunted with expectation of many placements in the future.
