The English Shepherd is an American breed, part of the quiet backbone of American agricultural history. The English Shepherd breed was known and used by our great-grandparents, grandparents and parents on their farms for over 100 years.

Sadly, English Shepherds have become rare in the working stockdog world. Novice farmers hardly know the breed and its talents as a farm chore dog on all kinds of stock. We must reverse this decline for the breed to survive with its historic instincts intact.

This website and the companion email list provide opportunities for information and building within the breed for those who are now working their English Shepherds or wanting to learn, as well as for those breeders working hard to breed good working English Shepherds. We provide this community forum to increase the breeds' numbers on family farms where their historical talents can best be preserved.

Many traditional English Shepherd owners are not on-line. The Working English Shepherd group is very interested in facilitating communication between the on-line and off-line groups of people who share the same interests. All owners are valued for their knowledge of the breed. We would be glad to provide litter-listing and other services to the on-farm but off-line group.
